Vounteers won’t be turned away at Red Rock workday Sept. 18

Volunteers are still welcome to help out with the Red Rock Canyon Open Space volunteer work day Saturday, Sept. 18. “We aren't turning anyone away,” said Terry Putman, manager of Colorado Springs' Trails, Open Space and Parks (TOPS) program.
The workday, a follow-up to the two-day project with the Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC) Aug. 28-29, will include trail-building and other tasks involved in getting the 788.1-acre open-space property ready for public use.
Times are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. To reach the work area, turn into the property at Ridge Road/High Drive off Highway 24, then follow the gravel road around to the left until you reach the designated parking areas.
More than 120 people have signed up so far.
An exact opening day is not yet scheduled. Putman said it won't be until after a contractor has finished roughing in a temporary parking lot off Highway 24. “It's still a few weeks away,” he told the Westside Pioneer this week.
