Meet a Westsider:
Maureen Nelson

Profession/Occupation... speech therapist and special education teacher at Jackson Ele-mentary. I love Jackson and feel we truly focus on our students and their needs.

What I like most about the Westside is... the quiet and sense of community within the perimeters. In some ways, I feel as if we are a suburb of Colorado Springs.

If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... faster police response time. My home was burglarized two weeks ago and I waited four hours for the police to come.

A good movie Iíve seen recently is... ďThe Passion of the Christ.Ē

The worst advice Iíve ever gotten was... donít move to Colorado. Iíve been here since 1969 and both my children are natives and still live here.

If I could meet someone famous, Iíd like to meet... Mother Theresa (past tense) and Billy Graham.

The next time I travel, Iím going to... wherever I can go with my children and grandchildren Ė love Hawaii.

My favorite childhood memory is... riding horses and working on my dadís ranch in California.

My favorite summer pastime is... reading and hiking. I love exploring all of the nooks and crannies in the Garden of the Gods, which is only two blocks from my home.

Something good Iíve read is.. ďThe Testament,Ē by John Grisham.

My pet peeve is... tailgating drivers.

If I won the lottery, Iíd... share it with my girls by planning a great trip all together and have the pleasure of sharing the rest with my church and other charities.

Meet a WestsiderĒ is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you would like to be a Meet-a-Westsider (or know someone who should be), please give us a call at 471-6776.
