No horsing around
Boys varsity runners pass between horse barns at the Norris-Penrose Event Center, 1045 Lower Gold Camp Road, during the inaugural Cheyenne Stampede cross-country event Sept. 10. The 5-kilometer course also included trails in neighboring Bear Creek Regional Park, with the finishing chute inside Penrose Stadium – a first for the Event Center. Stan Lambros, an event organizer for Cheyenne Mountain High School, said he thought the races went well, with Coronado High coach Doug Hugill among those who liked the course. The Event Center and Regional Park were selected for the Stampede after Lambros and others “scouted various places in the Colorado Springs area [for a site] that could not only provide a great test for a cross-country runner, but provide a venue worthy of a state meet site,” he said.
