Letter: Manitou's Urban Renewal Authority could boost avenue project

Thank you for the clear presentation of the project that should begin soon. Commissioner Sallie Clark has been tireless in making this project happen for the Westside. Both of us saw the opportunity to create the avenue as a wonderful venue for shoppers, visitors and residents by connecting Manitou Springs and Old Colorado City with the area that no one really wanted to claim as their own.
Manitou Springs did agree to creating a Urban Renewal Authority over a half dozen years ago in order to pitch in and improve our east end of town. The City Council at that time and later councils could visualize the benefit of the improvements to the overall appearance and the economic benefits to the entities involved. We now have the resources to be an important party to this project and hope that beginning the work in Manitou will be a great boost to our URA in encouraging businesses, housing and tourism opportunities.
