Scarecrow Days to start Sept. 13
Art, Taste, Pumpkin events slated in Old Town

Scarecrow Days will start in Old Colorado City this weekend (Sept. 13-14).
The annual grouping of merchant-organized events - partly promotional, partly public entertainment - will continue through the first week of October. The event name comes from the handmade scarecrows which will be on display in front of participating stores and on street corners throughout the fall.
The event is sponsored by the Old Colorado City Associates (OCCA) merchants group, with organizational leadership for the first time this year from the Zeal Group - a marketing firm the OCCA recently hired.
The main activities will be the annual Art on the Avenue and Taste of Old Colorado City Saturday, Sept. 27, and Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off: Saturday, Oct. 4. The community gets to judge their favorite scarecrows, between Sept. 13 and Oct. 4. The results will be announced during the Weigh-Off, according to a Zeal press release.
There also will be “celebrity” scarecrow judging Sept. 13 from 10 a.m. to noon by Stetson Hills Police Commander Tish Olszewski and retiring Fire Chief Manuel Navarro.
Zeal is also inviting schools, churches and organizations to build and decorate scarecrows for display on avenue street corners from 24th to 27th Street. For more information, call 388-8993.
