Komen Race for Cure at Garden of the Gods Sept. 12

In its fourth year at the Garden of the Gods, the Susan G. Komen Southeastern Colorado Affiliate Race for the Cure is expected to attract thousands of runners and walkers Sunday morning, Sept. 12.
The annual event, which will close off interior Garden roads for most of the morning, is part of a national effort to find a cure for breast cancer.
To register in advance, or to offer volunteer help or donations, go to the website: komensecolorado.org. A phone number is 632-8887 (leave a message).
Race-day registration will start at 5:30 a.m., with the different events (a 5K run, 5K walk and 1K family walk) starting at 8, 8:15 and 8:45 a.m. The staging area will be the Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site parking area at 30th Street and Gateway Road. Awards ceremonies will follow.
Individual/team entrants are welcome. For individuals, the entry cost is $30 ($20 for children), with the cost $5 higher on race day.
Three outlying parking areas will be provided, with shuttle buses to the event. These are the Verizon lot at Garden of the Gods Road and 30th Street; Agilent Technologies, 1900 Garden of the Gods Road; and Coronado High School, 1590 W. Fillmore St.
On the day before the race, Sept. 11 at Rock Ledge Ranch, there will be a fundraiser called Pooches in Pink, in which people can bring leashed dog(s) “for a pet friendly walk” for the cause, the Komen website states. The cost is $30 ($10 for each additional dog).
