RMFI sets fall schedule for Garden of the Gods volunteer restoration workdays

Erosion control in the Garden of the Gods will be organized in nine scheduled workdays by the Rocky Mountain Field Institute (RMFI) from September to November.
Volunteers are welcome. Most workdays are from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The minimum age is 16, or 13 with a parent volunteer. Youth days are half-days (see times below), with work “appropriate for youth as young as 8,” a press release states.
Advance registration is required for all workdays. For more information, contact Molly Mazel, volunteer coordinator, at 471-7736 or molly@rmfi.org.
“Fall objectives for the Garden include restoring redundant trails in the Camp Creek drainage area and stabilizing erosion gullies in the Central Garden,” the press release summarizes.
The workday list follows (full day unless otherwise stated):
       - Saturday, Sept. 6.
       - Sunday, Sept. 7 (youth day, 12:30-4 p.m.).
       - Saturday, October 11 (youth day, 12:30-4 p.m.).
       - Saturday, Nov. 1.
       - Sunday, Nov. 2.
       - Saturday, Nov. 8.
       - Sunday, Nov. 9 (youth day, 8:30 a.m.-noon and 12:30-4 p.m.).
       - Saturday, Nov. 15.
       - Sunday, Nov. 16.

“Since 2002, RMFI has been restoring social trails, reconstructing designated trails and mitigating soil erosion in this sensitive, but highly visited park,” according to the RMFI website, rmfi.org. The nonprofit entity, which does similar work at other locations around the state and region, is headquartered on the Westside.
Entities helping fund the Garden work include Colorado Springs Parks and the Garden of the Gods Foundation.
