What do you do?
Molly McDonald

Where do you work and what is your title?
I’m a cosmetologist and one of the owners of Molly Sue’s Salon in Old Colorado City. Sue Stahly is my partner.
What do you do there and/or what are you responsible for?
I make clients look and feel their best everyday! I do cuts, colors, perms, up-do’s, shampoo and styles and facial waxing. I order my own products, including colors, perms, equipment and supplies; order products to sell and book my own appointments. I also do some of the cleaning and laundry.
How long have you been doing this kind of work (total)? How long on the Westside?
I have been a cosmetologist for eight years! And I am proud to say I’ve always worked on the Westside. We’ve been at our present location for just over a year now. The people on the Westside are fantastic!
What do you like best about it (other than quitting time)?
I love that I can be flexible and make my own hours! That gives me the opportunity to spend quality time with family and friends. I love my clients, they make my job so rewarding! Making men and women look and feel their best is the biggest reward!
If you could change one thing (other than pay), what would it be?
Parking can be dicey around lunch and dinner time, so yes, having designated parking for clients would be great!
What part of your work did your training/education never prepare you for?
How to deal with the emotions. People change their hair when they’re happy, sad, had a life-changing experience, death, etc. It’s the fastest and least expensive way to make a change, and people notice it quickly! Sometimes, it’s hard to comfort a client, but I always try my hardest to let them know they’re loved when they’re in my chair!
What makes working on the Westside special?
The Westside is such an intimate and tight-kit community! It has such a wonderful small-town feel!

“What do you do?” is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you know someone who has an interesting job on the Westside (but doesn’t live here), he/she might be a candidate for this column! If you know someone who might qualify, give us a call at 471-6776.
