Open house at Old Midland site

       The businesses at the Old Midland School will host free open houses Friday, Sept. 6 from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 7 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
       “Tour the beautiful old school and meet the owners of these wonderful businesses,” reads a press release.
       The three-level building at 815 S. 25th St. was the original Midland school, built in 1889. Since 2007, it has been owned by Terra Nova Engineering, which has its offices there along with five other businesses: Summit Behavioral Services, Artistic Yarn by Abi Inc., Rocky Mountain Field Institute, Deb Komitor Fine Art Studio and Invincible Heart Co.
       ArtWalk Sept. 6
       The monthly First Friday ArtWalk in Old Colorado City will be Sept. 6.
       Participating shops and galleries will be open for the free, self-guided tour from 5 to 8 p.m.
       Special activities that have been announced:
  • 45 Degrees, 2528 W. Colorado Ave., Suite B - demonstrations by Salida artists Carl Bork and Karen Watkins.
  • The Arati Art Gallery, 2425 W. Colorado Ave. - reception for watercolorist Kang Lee Sheppard and potter Dan Masimer.
