Red Rock youth project Aug. 26

       A Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC) Youth Project Saturday, Aug. 26 will continue construction of a new east-west trail through the southern part of Red Rock Canyon Open Space.
       Workers as young as age 14 are welcome to sign up for the project, which is overseen by the VOC's Youth Advisory Board.
       Sixty volunteers are needed for the all-day project. The VOC is a statewide trail-building organization that worked with Colorado Springs Parks on the first Red Rock trail project in 2004.
       The new trail, dubbed the Roundup Trail, currently goes southeast from the joint ending points of the Contemplative and Sand Canyon trails to the Mesa Trail, as a result of City Parks projects earlier this year. The trail is planned to continue east to Greenlee Canyon, providing connectivity to existing north-south trails, according to City Parks officials.
