Meet a Westsider:
Jo Anne Eckrich
Home-based travel agent with Royal Cruise Adventures Inc., which has its offices in Littleton. I’m retired from the Colorado Springs Police Department, where I worked as the police court liaison.
What I like most about the Westside is... I am a loyal Westsider, and when I cross over Nevada Avenue my palms begin to perspire and I begin to wonder if the trip is really necessary! The Westside is a world of its own where we are all connected in one way or another.
If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... nothing. I love the Westside just as it is. I am sure that after I see this in print I will think of a few things, but as of right now nothing comes to mind.
A good movie I’ve seen recently is... the original “Fiddler on the Roof.” I watch it every other month or so. It keeps life in perspective.
I'd like to discover... a cure for cancer. I think each and every one of us has been touched by cancer. Hopefully someone will discover a cure.
If I could meet someone famous, I’d like to meet... I’d like to have met Jacqueline Kennedy.
The next time I travel, I’m going... In less than two weeks we leave for a fantastic Trans Atlantic cruise! We will be visiting Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Scotland, Faroe Islands, Iceland, Russia, Estonia, and more, ending up in Boston. Being a cruise specialist has its benefits!
My favorite childhood memory is... being raised in the South, I have so many wonderful memories that it's difficult to choose just one. I used to love to spend time with my grandmother, and each day she would fix my favorite meal of fresh green beans, stewed potatoes, tomatoes and cornbread. Grandmother also introduced me to Dr. Pepper. When I would stay with her, each afternoon at 2 p.m. sharp, just like the bottle used to say (10-2-4), she would open a bottle and we would sit on her back steps and share it.
My favorite summer pastime is... travel. Travel is a favorite of mine regardless of the season. Taking a road trip is always fun to me ….a drive to Michigan or a drive to Pueblo….just give me a Dr. Pepper and a bag of pork rinds and I am set to go!
Something good I’ve read is... anything by Joel Olsten. I love his positive, can-do teachings.
My pet peeve is... negative people. Whether in thoughts or actions, negative breeds negative and positive breeds positive. In any situation, regardless of how difficult it may be, you can always find the positive as God will never give you more than you can handle and He works in mysterious ways. Sometimes my husband will turn to me and say "find the positive in this one…" If you look closely you can always find the positive. Sometimes you have to dig around to find it, but it's there.
If I won the lottery I’d... I would make donations to my church, to St. Jude's and to the Humane Society. Then I would take all of my family on an Alaskan cruise.
