D-3 commissioner candidate sponsors job fair at Community Center Aug. 27 - event canceled

UPDATE, Aug. 26: This event has been canceled. According to VanderWerf, it was learned on the 26th that there's a federal law regarding governing public entities' appearance of involvement with a political candidate.
A job fair, sponsored by District 3 Republican County Commissioner candidate Stan VanderWerf, is scheduled this Saturday, Aug. 27 at the Westside Community Center, 1628 W. Bijou St.
The event will be from 2 to 5 p.m.
On hand will be representatives of the Colorado Springs Police, El Paso County Sheriff's Office, Mining Exchange/Antlers hotels, Pikes Peak Workforce Center, District 11 and “possibly the Manitou PD. All are hiring,” said Jillian Likness, a campaign spokesperson.
“We have identified a need to attract and retain local talent in our communities, thereby ensuring a strong job market and continued growth,” she added. “Stan VanderWerf values local economic development, job creation and industry growth and as such, has generously sponsored this wonderful community event.”

VanderWerf, who defeated Karen Cullen in the Republican primary election June 28, is running against Democrat Electra Johnson. The Nov. 8 general-election winner will serve a four-year term, replacing Sallie Clark, who is term-limited after 12 years.
