Bear Creek Nature Center: BBQ fundraiser Aug. 26, 40-year celebration Aug. 27

El Paso County's Bear Creek Nature Center turns 40 this year, and a celebration is planned Saturday, Aug. 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The free event will include guided hikes, live animals and puppet shows, according to a center spokesperson.
The center is at 245 Bear Creek Road.
Also scheduled - the night before, Friday, Aug. 26 - is the annual fundraiser called the Happy Trails BBQ, from 6 to 9 p.m. The event will have live music and catered food. The cost is $45 a person. Advance registration is requested.
The Nature Center, which has free admission (but fees for most programs), is at 245 Bear Creek Road. It was first built in 1976, but an arson fire destroyed it in 2000. County residents voted that same year to spend excess tax revenues to erect the one that exists today.
The center is open Tuesday-Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information call 520-6387.
