What do you do?
Raquel Ford

Where do you work and what is your title?
I work at Stone Path Gardens, a locally owned garden center and landscaping business specializing in xeriscape, native plants, cacti and succulents.
What do you do there and/or what are you responsible for?
I am the office manager and I do it all! From waiting on our customers, to working with our local artisans, to ordering plants, scheduling employees and paying bills. If it needs to be done, I do it.
How long have you been doing this kind of work (total)? How long on the Westside?
I have worked with Stone Path Gardens since the summer of 2006. In 2010, my mom Edie and my dad Roy purchased the former Red Rocks Nursery, and I have been there ever since.
What do you like best about it (other than quitting time)?
I love working with family. My mother owns the business. My father is here every day after his other job, helping to do everything from maintenance to landscape jobs. My sister does our major bookkeeping. Both of my children have worked here. It’s a family affair!
If you could change one thing (other than pay), what would it be?
Weeds. Weeds just might be the death of me! I’m also not fond of the days that are 123 degrees farenheit in the greenhouse.
What part of your work did your training/education never prepare you for?
Mean people you cannot be fully trained for. Thank goodness 99 percent of our customers are delightful. But that other 1 percent – goodness!
What makes working on the Westside special?
The people, the view from the cafe and being in the neighborhood with our customers so we can see the fruits of their labor on a daily basis. We love the Westside!

“What do you do?” is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you know someone who has an interesting job on the Westside (but doesn’t live here), he/she might be a candidate for this column! If you know someone who might qualify, give us a call at 471-6776.
