Westside schools: Open houses scheduled in District 11

       Open house is traditional in the first few weeks of school. Some have them right at (or before) the beginning of school, while others wait a while.
       With school having started Aug. 19, the following is the tentative open house schedule for Westside District 11 schools:
       Elementary Schools
       Bristol - Sept. 8, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
       Buena Vista - Sept. 9, 5:30 p.m. Picnic.
       Howbert - Sept. 9, 6-7 p.m.
       Ivywild K-8 - Aug. 19, 6-7 p.m.
       Jackson - Aug. 24, 6-8 p.m., grades K-2; Aug. 26, 6-8 p.m., grades 3-5.
       Midland - held Aug. 17; also Sept. 21, 6-7:30 p.m.
       Pike - held Aug. 17; also Aug. 23, 6 p.m.
       Washington - Sept. 2, 6:30 p.m.
       Whittier - Aug. 23, 6-7:30 p.m.
       New teachers at Whittier: Kindergarten, Tammy Rundstrom; second grade, Anne Shargel; third grade, Maria Allgood; PE, Vanessa McMichael; Title I, Kirin Cantu; GT, Christina Rochelle.
       Middle Schools
       Holmes - Aug. 24, 6:30-9:30 p.m.

       Coronado - Aug. 26, 6-8:15 p.m.
      
       Alternative high school
       Bijou - Sept. 23, 5 p.m.
       New Ivywild staff: The following are new staff at Ivywild School (grades 6-8) this school year:
       Steve Archuleta, grade 2; Michael Lococo, grades 6-7; Mark Metheney, PE; Wendy Mott, office support assistant; Michael Rasdall, teacher assistant; Maryanne Tucker, English as Second Language (ESL) Decorah Valier, grade 1; Cherie Ward, grade 4; and Linda Griffith, art.
      
       Upcoming sports for Coronado High: Football season opener against Pomona at Gary Berry Stadium 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4.
