10th annual Habitat (Scar) hike set Aug. 27
The 10th annual 5K Hike the Habitat (formerly Scale the Scar) will be Saturday, Aug. 27.
Registration is at 8 a.m. at the gate of the newly named Greg Francis Bighorn Sheep Habitat near the Navigators Headquar-ters on 30th Street. The site is a wildlife habitat for about 50 bighorn sheep.
There is a fee to join the excursion, during which participants will receive breakfast, a T-shirt, a massage, entertainment and giveaways.
The costs are $17.50 for adults who register in advance ($20 on the day of the hike) and $15 per child. Children must be accompanied by a guardian or parent.
Hike proceeds help the Colorado Mountain Reclamation Foundation (CMRF) reclaim the scars from a former quarry operation by planting trees and shrubs. According to CMRF project manager Wanda Reaves, “Hikers can see more than 6,000 trees planted by thousands of community volunteers.”
