The founders might have sung along
Dressed in period attire and playing 19th-century-era instruments, the Frontier Army Band of Colorado performs for Founders Day inside the Old Colorado City History Center Aug. 10. The annual celebration, organized by the Old Colorado City Historical Society, commemorated the official start of Colorado City as a town in 1859. The official date is Aug. 12, but the society traditionally recognizes it on the nearest weekend. The Frontier Army band played twice during the three-hour event, which also included slices of cake and a speech on the Glorieta Pass battle by local historian Dave Hughes.
