Coronado students win music, sports events

       Uncharted, a group of Coronado High students, won the Pikes Peak Library District's Teen Battle of the Bands Aug. 2. Members are Miles Roth, vocals/guitar; Tom Vaupel, drums; Ryan Logan, guitar and Wyatt Schrepel, bass guitar. Playing rock music, the band was one of five finalists selected to perform live at Acacia Park downtown.
       Judging criteria included vocal/instrumental skills, complexity of music, stage presence and efficient use of time. All four students are members of the Coronado jazz band.
       Their prize was studio time from Green Mountain Studios and a $100 gift certificate from the Music Exchange.
      
       Coronado High students Christina Contreras and Alexana Rotunda won the beach volleyball gold medal in the inaugural State Games of the West July 27 in in the under-18 division.
       The girls, who defeated three other teams from the Pikes Peak region in the competition, play volleyball for Coronado High School.
