Burlap Bag reopens Naegele location

The Burlap Bag, a family-owned retail business which has existed nearly 40 years (the last 20 on the Westside), has reopened a storefront at 2400 Naegele Road.

The business will specialize in Western boots, with children's and hiking boots to be added at a later date, according to Bob Wilcox, who co-owns the Burlap Bag with his wife Diane.
Naegele is a Highway 24 frontage road between 21st and 25th streets.
Continuing in business is the Wilcox's retail boot and clothing store at 31 S. 32nd St., which they'd opened in 1990.
He started Burlap Bag in 1971 near the laundromat on Ruxton Avenue in Manitou Springs. “Lots of customers still remember us from Ruxton,” Wilcox said.
Married in the late 1970s, the couple have owned 2400 Naegele - which has a 1,920-square-foot, one-story building on a 29,000-square-foot property - since 1985. They leased it most of those years, but ran a store of their own in the building from 1995 to 1999, he said.
The primary reason for returning to the site is that “the steel-toed workboot business has grown so much, there was no room [at 32nd Street] for Western boots,” Wilcox said. Another reason is that a major competitor in that type of footwear went out of business. “We were getting enough calls for them, we felt warranted to move,” he added.
The Naegele space was available because its previous renter, Timberline Toppers, had vacated (moving next door), Wilcox said.
Both Burlap Bag stores are open daily.
The phone for the new boot store is 633-5986.
