Commissioners favor Section 16 grant
Without dissent, El Paso County commissioners approved the county share of the Section 16 grant request to Great Outdoors
Colorado (GOCO) Aug. 5.
The estimated cost for the 640-acre park is $3.4 million, according to a county press release. The county will contribute $194,933 from its conservation trust fund (lottery money) and $5,067 from urban park fees. Other sources are the Colorado Springs Trails and Open Space Program (TOPS) and in-kind contributions. GOCO is being asked for a grant of $2,407,500, the release states.
Located just south of the Red Rock Canyon Open Space, the undeveloped hillside property is state-owned.
