Signups full for Aug. 28-29 Red Rock trail workday

Registrations have closed for the Aug. 28-29 volunteer trail workday in Red Rock Canyon Open Space.
Close to 200 have signed up, with an expectation (based on past experience) of 165 workers showing up for the project, according to Wendy Hodges of the Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC). The workers include crew leaders and volunteers from the Pikes Peak region as well as around the state.
The VOC is organizing the project in keeping with Colorado Springs Parks and a Red Rock trail master plan that was developed during public meetings on the Westside last spring.
People who would still like to help the project are being asked to contact City Parks about a city-planned Red Rock trail workday Sept. 18, Hodges said.
Chris Lieber, city trails coordinator, said he expects that most of the trail work Aug. 28-29 will be at the lower end of the property
Red Rock Canyon, purchased as open space by Colorado Springs last year, is a rugged, 788.1-acre property south of Highway 24 and west of the Westside's Midland neighborhood.
