Aug. 17 marks first day of D-11 2006-07 school year

Close to 2,700 children will flock back to the 13 Westside public schools when the new District 11 year begins Thursday, Aug. 17.
Principals will be returning in all the schools except Howbert Elementary, where David Morris, former District 11 gifted and talented facilitator, has taken over the reins from retired Principal Rick Gallegos.
Specialized educational strategies will continue to be offered in some of the District 11's Westside schools, for which the nickname of “magnet” applies - Bristol (arts), Midland (International Baccalaur-eate), Whittier (gifted - EAGLES program), Buena Vista (Montessori) and Washington (Core Knowledge) elementaries; Holmes (pre-Advanced Placement) and West (gifted - SAIL program) middle schools; and Coronado (Advanced Placement and Project Lead the Way) High School.
