Retiring District 11 staffers on Westside

       Several staff people at Westside schools retired after the 2011-12 school year.
       They are:
  • Buena Vista Elementary - Susan Garsoe, upper elementary teacher.
  • Howbert Elementary - Mary Morgan, library technology teacher (LTT).
  • Midland Elementary - Cindy Page, nurse (Midland was one of her schools, as well as Holmes Middle).
  • West Middle School - Cheryl Linthicum, LTT; and Sharon Rueth, preschool teacher.
  • Holmes Middle School - Amy Colwell, sixth-grade language arts/social studies; Lee Trujillo, building manager; Terri Shumaker, Special education assistant.
  • Coronado High School - Burr Tolles, Special education; Kathy Christy, administrative assistant.
           D-11 seeks fire victims
           School District 11 is seeking to help families adversely affected by the Waldo Canyon Fire. However, D-11 officials are concerned that they don't know about all those kinds of situations.
           “If you have lost your home, have extensive damage that prevents you from currently living in your home, or you know someone in these circumstances [who has not already met with D-11 officials], please contact the D-11 Title I Office at 520-2422,” a press release states.
           National Merit Scholarship
           Devon Allison, who graduated with Coronado High School's Class of 2012, has been awarded the National Merit Pomona College Scholarship for undergraduate study.
           He was one of 15,000 National Merit Finalists (out of about 1.5 million initial applicants). About half of the Finalists were chosen to receive scholarships, a press release states.
           The annual competition, which had about 1.5 million initial applicants, is organized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, a not-for-profit that operates without government assistance.

           CHS state track medalists
           Two Coronado High athletes earned individual medals at the May 18-19 State Track Meet.
           Senior Quin Ralston ran a 4:22.24.7 to place third in the boys 1600 meter run, and sophomore Tatianna Clanton's 17-foot-6 leap gained her second place (just two inches behind the winner) in the girls long jump.
