Meet a Westsider:
Bev Brown

Profession/Occupation... Owner and operator of Brown’s Preferred Pet Care. We’re in our 15th year offering dog boarding services in our home.

What I like most about the Westside is... it’s right in the middle of a big city, I can have the sense of a small-town atmosphere. The local shops have been here a long time and you get to know the people who work there. People in general seem friendlier, it's a great area in which to live.

If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... I always wondered what happened to the idea of putting a trolley down Colorado Avenue. I think that would be great.

A good movie I’ve seen recently is... The choice of good family movies with morals and no bad language is very limited. One series I found was all the Janette Oke movies beginning with “Love Comes Softly.” They are wonderful and heartwarming.

The worst advice I’ve ever gotten was... Many years ago someone told me I would look better with short hair. They must have felt pretty strongly about it because they even paid for my appointment. I got the worst haircut of my life. I think I was left with about 1 inch of hair all over my head. It was a very humiliating experience.

If I could meet someone famous, I’d like to meet... The Lord and Savior of my life, Jesus Christ! The wonderful thing about the desire to meet this famous person is that one day I actually am going to get to meet Him face to face!

The next time I travel, I’m going to... Oklahoma, to experience the wonderful arrival of our first grandchild... Thank you, Matt and Jen!

My favorite childhood memory is... Growing up in Texas. I have wonderful memories of our trips down to the Gulf of Mexico to swim and fish (even though I would get very seasick) and also great camping trips near the lakes. Maybe that's why I love the water to this day and swimming is my favorite way to get exercise!

My favorite pastime is... Fall is the season that refreshes my senses. I love to walk through the fallen leaves and feel and hear the crunch beneath my feet. The air can be brisk and refreshing yet comfortable warm days still's a great time of the year for me!

Something good I’ve read is.. I love reading the Bible, there is life and power in God's word. There are so many wonderful books today to expound on the word and help apply His principals to our everyday life. Joel Osteen's books “Your Best Life Now,” and “Become a Better You,” are both exceptional and inspiring.

My pet peeve is... People not keeping their word.

If I won the lottery, I’d... It would be a miracle if I won because I don't play the lottery! But my 84 year old Mom does and she promised to share her winnings with me if she wins! If that should occur, I'll decide when it happens.
