Vehicles exit toward Highway 24 from a recently completed roundabout at the entrance to the Red Rock Canyon Open Space’s Ridge Road/High Street parking lot (as seen from a hillside vantage point). According to City Parks Development Manager Chris Lieber, the roundabout configuration will prove useful in the future when the near-left access (currently closed) opens to a group picnic area and when the city puts in a night gate for the park – drivers can then turn around easily without having to go through the nearby neighborhood. Dozens of volunteers will likely be traversing the roundabout Saturday, July 29 for a Friends of Red Rock Canyon workday, supported by a grant from the REI outdoor company. Workers are asked to show up at 8 a.m. to help with trail construction and maintenance work.
