140th Bishop family reunion set in Bear Creek Regional Park Aug. 5

This photo of twins Edd (left) and Fred Bishop was probably taken in the 1920s. Inspired by their births in 1878, the Bishop family reunion has continued ever since, with the location again this year at Bear Creek Park.

The 140th annual Bishop Family Reunion will be held in Bear Creek Regional Park Sunday, Aug. 5.
The tradition started Aug. 19, 1878, when family members gathered to honor the birth of twins Oliver Fredrick “Fred” and John Edward “Edd” Bishop, who were born on a ranch that's now part of the Air Force Academy.
Fred Bishop, the son of the twin by that name and a long-time Westside resident, passed away in 2014 at age 93.
His cousin Tina Bishop, who helps organize the event, said the number of family attendees averages 100 to 200 each year.
