Sprucing up the open space

A few dozen volunteers helped the Palmer Land Trust during a cleanup day July 18 at the Mesa Wildlfie Preserve north of King and 19th streets. In the foreground above, Richard Bennett (left), Dr. Buz Sellers and Frank Dodge were cutting off the buds/flowers on invasive thistles growing in the 24-acre, Land Trust-owned public open space to weaken them for a spraying crew that was to come through later.
