EDITORíS DESK: On publishing the addresses
This whole medical marijuana thing has gotten to be quite a political hot potato, so I figured I'd better use this column to clarify that our running the list of Westside
license applications this issue is not intended as an editorial signal, one way or the other. I know there are a number of people suffering great pain who swear by the
stuff. On the other hand, there are folks who wonder: If marijuana is so useful as a pain-reducer, why is it outside the province of the medical profession? And, do we
really need 38 dispensaries on the Westside alone?
In any case, it's undeniable that a lot of people are interested in where these stores pop up. And, knowing that the submitted license applications are public information (except for the actual places where the plants are grown), we decided it would be a newsworthy service to obtain those business names and addresses from the City Clerk's Office, narrow them down to those on our side of town and publish them.
I only ask that anyone who might have an issue with our doing so keep an open mind if they choose to contact us, so that maybe we can talk through it a little bit. That's why this page has always been titled "Idea Exchange," instead of something like "Our Way or the Highway." One reason I mention this is because someone recently called on another story - no need to go into the details - and turned out to be interested only in landing some kind of "gotcha" on us. My questions about her actual thought process on the points she raised never got answered.
Before I run out of space... Congratulations to Ventura Ruiz on her 100th birthday (I'll bet most of our readers ate at Henri's quite a few times).
