A proposal to expand the KRDO-TV studio at 399 S. 8th St. has been submitted to City Land Use Review.
The project would add 3,059 square feet onto the north and west sides of the existing studio building, the submitted information shows.
According to the County Assessor's database, the current studio is 7,886 square feet and sits on 1.17 acre of land.
No variances or setbacks from adjoining properties are included in the request.
A development plan is not required under city code because the addition amounts to less than 50 percent of the existing building; also, the submittal can be administratively approved, said Mike Schultz, the assigned planner from Land Use.
The formal request is for “approval of building permit to unplatted land,” submitted by MBI Design/MBI Contractors on behalf of Pikes Peak Television Inc.
The KRDO studio building at South Eighth dates back to 1953, the Assessor's database states. In September of that year, KRDO went on the air as an NBC affiliate, and it has been an ABC affiliate since 1960, according to Wikipedia.
