Red Rock Friends workday July 29

Aided by a $10,000 grant from the REI outdoor store, Friends of Red Rock Canyon is sponsoring a workday Saturday, July 29 at Red Rock Canyon Open Space, in conjunction with Colorado Springs Parks.
The work will focus on trail work and the removal of “invasive” Chinese elm trees in the Sand Canyon area, according to the Red Rock Rag (the Friends' quarterly newsletter).
The trail work will involve “improving rock climbing access trails and closing redundant social trails in the climbing area,” the Rag states
Volunteer workers are welcome. Work times are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., with people meeting at the main Red Rock Canyon parking lot off Ridge Road/High Street.
Pre-registration is requested by calling Amy Ellison of City Parks at 385-6520. For information about the trail work aspects, call Friends board member Bob Hostetler at 488-8867.
       A follow-up workday is scheduled Sept. 30.
