Christmas in July?
Handler Eileen D’Amour, dressed in a Santa-style cap, helps youngsters pet a reindeer named Buckwheat July 12 outside the Old Colorado City Branch Library during the free “Really Reindeer” program, which was attended by more than 50 people. Buckwheat wa s one of two reindeer who made the trip from the Whispering Winds Farm in Black Forest. Along with the opportunity for hands-on reindeer attention, attendees gained various insights into the animals’ ways, including the fact that their hooves are shaped so they click when they walk, which makes it easier to follow each other in a snowstorm. Wonder if Santa knows that?
