‘Fast Food Nation’ author at Steakhouse
Eric Schlosser, author of the best-seller, “Fast Food Nation,” will come to the Ranch Steakhouse and Market, 575 Garden of the Gods Road, for a
book-signing and fund-raiser for injured meat-packing plant workers Thursday, July 20.
Tickets are $45 a person. A food sampler will be included.
A fictionalized movie version of the book is scheduled for release this fall, with the premiere in Colorado Springs, where much of the book is based and portions of the movie were filmed.
“We are very excited and honored to host Eric Schlosser during his visit to Colorado Springs,” said Mike Callicrate, owner of Ranch Foods Direct and the Ranch Steakhouse, who helped edit Schlosser's book. “His book tells the story of what drives our company and why we are so committed to creating an alternative food system that is socially, environmentally and nutritionally beneficial.”

Westside-based Goodwill Industries will hold one of its thrice-annual Doll Sales Friday and Saturday, July 14-15.
The sale, at 2340F Montebello Sq. Dr. (near Academy and Montebello), will offer 10,000 dolls or doll items from $1 each to collectibles worth hundreds of dollars. The hours will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
The sales are fund-raisers for Goodwill, a non-profit agency that provides assistance and employment to the disadvantaged and disabled.

Red Mango Gallery & Gifts will open Saturday, July 15 at 10 S. 25th St. (the former location of the Holly Leaf).
Owner Patti Blakeman says she will specialize in her own art works as well as those of local and international artists and will also offer “funky ecletic gifts.”
