Biz buzz:
Grand opening for New Ace July 13-15

The new Ace Hardware at the Uintah Gardens shopping center has opened for business and will hold a grand opening Friday to Sunday, July 13-15.
“We're rockin' and rollin.' It's been great,” said co-owner Kirby Kuklenski, describing how it's been since the store opened June 18. “It's becoming a store people are shopping in (as opposed to just coming for an item and then leaving). We've had a great response from the Westside.”
The grand opening will feature a variety of promotional activities in the early afternoon each day, plus an Ace donation to Pillar, a Colorado Springs non-profit learning institute for retired people.
Kuklenski started the hardware store with his brother Nick. The business has returned Ace to its former location at Uintah Gardens (1830-B Uintah St.), where it had been for 10 years before closing in 2005.
The Westside Plaza shopping center, at the southwest corner of 19th and Uintah streets, is getting a facelift.
The improvements, which should be finished this month, include improved lighting, the addition of 12 ornamental pillars and new stucco, owner Jannie Richardson and leasing agent Jeff Stinson explained in a recent interview. In the last year or so, the electricity was updated and new asphalt poured in the parking lot, they also noted.
An impetus for the current work, costing close to $70,000, has been the upgrades this year at the larger Uintah Gardens shopping center at the northeast corner of the intersection. “We want to make Westside Plaza more presentable and attract more customers,” Stinson said.
Built in 1982, the center has 21,000 square feet of tenant space, with 6,000 available. Richardson has been the owner since 1992.
The fourth annual Open House & “Touching the World” benefit against human slavery will be Saturday, July 21 at the Colorado Institute of Massage Therapy, 1490 W. Fillmore St.
The free event will include information about the international plight of human trafficking, as well as food, music, massages, a 5K fun walk, games and prizes.
       A $10 donation is requested.
