Old Colorado City Art Walk July 2
Squash Blossom and the Hunter-Wolff Gallery will feature new offerings during the monthly Old Colorado City Art Walk Friday, July 2.
The free event from 5 to 8 p.m. welcomes people to a dozen galleries or studios on or near West Colorado Avenue between 24th and 27th streets.
Squash Blossom, 2531 W. Colorado Ave., has recently added works by fashion jewelers Gurhan and Todd Reed. Hunter-Wolff, 2510 W. Colorado Ave., will have a reception for a “touchable,” three-dimensional collection by sculptor Ruth Burink, glass blower Donna Gordon and pottery/weaving work by Marc Jenesel and Karen Pierce.
Also at the Art Walk, the Arati Artists Gallery, 2425 W. Colorado Ave., will exhibit new works by member painter Karen Standridge and potters Robyn and Curt Elliott.
Red Rock workday
With only two advance signups for volunteers, the Friends of Red Rock Canyon had to cancel its June 20 maintenance workday.
A new date will be set at the next Friends board meeting July 12, according to Karlee Thompson, board president.
The workday was to have been accompanied by a get-together at Red Rock of up to 100 local drummers, which as a result was also cancelled at the site.
Fire in Holland Park area
Damages from an accidental house fire June 18 at 1316 Hamstead Ct. have been estimated at $85,000. Investigators have determined that the fire was started by a 3-year-old playing with a lighter and a candle, a Fire Department press release states.
A total of 30 firefighters battled the blaze for 36 minutes before bringing it under control.
The occupants had to find temporary housing, the release states.
Utilities work on Uintah
A Colorado Springs Utilities project to replace 2,200 feet of eight-inch water line near the Uintah Gardens shopping center began in mid-May and is due for completion at the end of this month.
The work is part of Utilities' Water Main Replacement Program (WMRP), according to Utilities spokesperson Dave Grossman.
Traffic on Uintah has been reduced to one lane each way at times during the project.
Ballroom (July 3), country (July 10) and Czech Slovak (July 17) dance evenings with live bands will be offered on the first three Saturdays in July at the International Dance Club, 2422 Busch Ave.
There is a cost to participate. The July 17 event includes a dinner.
