The annual rodeo featuring working cowboys from ranches in several states will be held in Penrose Stadium at the Norris-Penrose Event Center Friday night, July 3.
Called the Ride for the Brand Championship Rodeo, the event will start at 6:30 p.m. The center is at 1045 Lower Gold Camp Road.
Based on tasks that working cowboys typically need to accomplish, competition will be in bronc riding, wild cow milking, sorting and trailer loading.
This year, 12 ranches are scheduled to participate, according to the Ride for the Brand website. Represented states are Colorado, Texas, Nebraska, New Mexico and Oklahoma.
Ticket prices range from $20 and down, with discounts for children. Proceeds will go to the Cowboy Crisis Fund and charities supported by the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo Foundation, according to Bob Book, a member of the committee that's organizing the event.
An option beforehand outside the stadium is a cowboy-styled barbecue dinner for $15 (ages 10 and under eat free). Fireworks and a live band with “dancing in the dirt” (on the stadium floor) will follow the rodeo, Book said.
