Summer art/recycle opportunity for teens
Westside artist Sherry Bennett is inviting teenagers to a meeting Thursday, June 25 that could lead to “various public art and recycling activities” in Westside parks,
she said this week.
The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. at the new West Center location, 1628 W. Bijou St. (entrance near the rear of the building nearest 17th Street).
The goal is to form a group to go out regularly “to promote beautification and service for Westside parks,” she said. “I'd like to get something ongoing, so I'm trying to collect as many folks as possible.”
Bennett is the citizen “adopter” of Blunt Park (at 24th and Vermijo streets) and has been creating a xeriscape garden in its 70-square-foot flower plot. She also is known for tile murals, including the ones in front of her house next to the Old Colorado City Library and another that she created with staff and student input outside Lincoln Elementary last year.
