Band’s tips go to wounded soldiers
If you tip the band at Front Range BBQ on Tuesday nights when John Wise's group is playing, the money goes to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund - a
private, national foundation aimed at helping severely wounded soldiers.
Wise said the practice started when its banjo player was Bob Craig, a military doctor who later served 16 months in Afghanistan. Although Craig afterward moved to Chicago and the band “floundered” for a while, when Wise got together with a new musical lineup, they agreed to keep the tradition going.
“It's surprising how generous people can be,” Wise said. “The fund gets $60 to $100 every time we play.”
Sometimes known as “John Wise and Friends,” sometimes as “Coalition of the Willing (COW),” the group is the regular Tuesday night band at Front Range, 2320 W. Colorado Ave. Other members are Louis Borachaner, Marty Rust, Steve Miles and Don Marlin.
