Westside handyman honored; Indian Hills Village set for groundbreaking

Westsider John Thompson took first place recently in the annual Handyman Connection International Craftsman of the Year
He is an independent contractor with the Colorado Springs Handyman Connection, one of the company's franchises in the United States and Canada.
Thompson has been with the company since March 2000. He has also volunteered time with Habitat for Humanity and the Salvation Army.
The award - “Handyman Connection International Craftsman of the Year 2003” - was presented at the company's annual convention in Las Vegas this spring. He also received a gift certificate for $1,000 toward the purchase of DeWalt tools.
Groundbreaking is planned within the next two weeks for the Indian Hills Village townhome development in the Mesa Springs area of the Westside.
The 80-unit project will include construction of the first portion of Centennial Boulevard south of Fillmore Street. How-ever, Centennial will not be connected to any other streets at this time, accor-ding to Rob Gray of Thomas & Thomas, the planning consultant for developer Continental Divisions.
Centennial is eventually planned to connect to Fontanero Street near its I-25 interchange.
Access to the development will be from Chest-nut Street via Mesa Valley Road and Van Buren Street.
The grand opening of the new King Soopers store and shopping center at Fill-more Street and Centen-nial Boulevard has been moved to Wednesday, June 30.
Details are not yet available on what activities are planned, according to King Soopers offices in Denver.
The 66,000-square-foot store will anchor a 100,000-square-foot center on 12.3 acres that will also feature several smaller retail businesses.
