Drive-through coffee shop opens next to Roundhouse

A Dutch Bros. drive-thru coffee shop was recently built at the northwest corner of 21st Street and Bott Avenue, outside the historic Roundhouse building. The actual address is 624 S. 21 St.
The grand opening Thursday, June 19 featured free drinks all day, according to a press release.
The release adds that on Thursday, June 26, the location “will be donating proceeds from the day” to the Ronald McDonald House of Southern Colorado, a charitable nonprofit.

A view from the intersection of Bott Avenue and 21st Street shows a stage in the construction of the new Dutch Bros. drive-through coffee shop next to the historic Roundhouse building. Using the company's signature Dutch style that's in keeping with the background of the national chain's founders, the design was not intended to match that of the Roundhouse.

It will be the fourth franchise in Colorado Springs for the national chain. The owners are Travis and Rita Pickern. They recently moved to the Springs after working for a combined 14 years at the company's headquarters in Grants Pass, Oregon. They have also bought the other three Dutch Bros. stores in the Springs, according to Rita.
“We have been dreaming of moving to colorful Colorado for years and this was just the opportunity to get us here,” she said in an e-mail exchange. “We are very eager to join the Westside community and hope to be purchasing a home there within the next 18 months. This whole city is blessed with stunning topography and views of Pikes Peak but there is just something authentic and soulful about the western side. We are blessed to be here and hope to be able to return the blessing to this community.”
       The business is open daily.
The menu includes various types of hot coffee, as well as blended drinks, teas, muffins, oatmeal and an energy drink created by Dutch Bros.
The building design is the same type used in other company stores, "Because our company's founders are Dutch, our buildings have an implied Dutch flair," Rita said.
All Dutch Bros. coffee is roasted at the Grants Pass facility, Rita said. The company was started there in 1992.
