About 15 people from the Fellowship of the Rockies Church on South Eighth Street picked up trash along Highway 24 between 8th and 31st streets June 7.
The work, combined with efforts the next day by Keep Colorado Springs Beautiful (KCSB), filled a total of 35 trash bags, according to Dee Cunningham of KCSB.
She reported happily that the church volunteers hope to come help out again with KCSB, a private non-profit agency that picks up trash under contracts with governments and other entites. “We need all the groups we can muster,” she said.
Volunteers are needed for a maintenance workday at Red Rock Canyon Open Space Saturday, June 20.
Co-sponsored by City Parks and the Friends of Red Rock Canyon, the project will be from 8 a.m. to noon.
“Activities will include vegetation restoration, elm removal, closure of social trails and general clean up around the area,” the City Parks website states.
Advance registration is requested. For more information, call 385-6520 or e-mail cityparkvol@springsgov.com.
