Meet a Westsider:
Curt Layman

Profession/Occupation... I’m an oil landscape artist and do architectural artwork. I also sideline chopping weeds.

What I like most about the Westside is... it’s the nicest place on earth right now. “What a difference does climate make in the enjoyment of life” (a quote from the “Voyage of the Beagle,” by Charles Darwin).

If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... to reduce traffic noise.

A good movie I’ve seen recently is... “Good Night and Good Luck.” The movie was about TV journalist Edward R. Murrow and Senator Joseph McCarthy’s hearings. I saw all that stuff live on television when I was 13. I didn’t understand a word of it but I knew it was important.

I'd like to discover... where outlaws hid millions in double eagle gold coins in the Devil’s Head formation in 1869.

If I could meet someone famous, I’d like to meet... the Dalai Lama.

The next time I travel, I’m going to... California and Hawaii to visit my kids.

My favorite childhood memory is... peaceful Thanksgiving and Christmas on the farm.

My favorite summer pastime is... walking and painting.

Something good I’ve read is.. “Appointment at the Ends of the World,” by William B. Karesh, D.M.V. It’s the story of a wildlife vet in the strangest places. Dr. Karesh heads the International Field Veterinary Program for the Wildlife Conservation Society.

My pet peeve is... back seat drivers (throw in road rage, too.)

If I didn’t have to work for a year I would... pack up and go paint America.

Meet a Westsider” is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you would like to be a Meet-a-Westsider (or know someone who should be), please give us a call at 471-6776.
