UPDATE: Last Fillmore, ramps project closure postponed to June 24-27
The last major traffic shutdown of the $15.1 million Fillmore/I-25 interchange project is scheduled the weekend of Friday night, June 17 at about 8 p.m. to Monday morning June 20 at about 5 a.m.
During that time, Fillmore Street will be shut down in both directions over the interstate. The interstate ramps will also be closed, according to Ted Tjerandsen of Wilson and Company, a project consultant to the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT).
In addition to the final paving topcoat, “during this closure, crews will also build the median islands and apply fresh striping and install permanent traffic signals,” a press release states.
This will result in the final configuration of the diverging diamond interchange (the new alignment for Fillmore over I-25), Tjerandsen elaborated. Currently, SEMA Construction, the contractor, has placed a few hundred traffic cones and barrels to mark the temporary alignment.
He also said that after June 20, based on the contractor's schedule, there will be no more closures of that magnitude. “We'll just have intermittent lane closures on Fillmore and on I-25,” he added.
The project, which started in February of 2015, is nearing completion, with the last of the construction likely to take place in late June or early July.
