Library offers walking tours of Old Town

A monthly series of free walking tours is being offered this month, July and August by the Old Colorado City Library.
The first tour, scheduled Saturday, June 12 at 10:30 a.m., will discuss early Colorado City and its general history and visit “some of the oldest sites,” according to library branch assistant David Rasmussen, who will serve as tour guide.
The starting point will be the library, 2418 W. Colorado Ave.
Other tours (also at 10:30 a.m.) are planned July 10, featuring “accounts of famous people, notable and notorious, and visits to sites with which they were associated”; and Aug. 14 (part of the annual Founders' Day), focusing on the “revitalization of the business district and neighborhood,” Rasmussen said.
The walking series resulted from a a library wish “to take advantage of the nice summer weather and having tourists around,” he explained. However, he pointed out, “they're not necessarily just for tourists. They're also for locals who want to get to know the area better.”
