Arensdale students sought by Shriners

The Colorado Springs Shrine Club is looking for former Arensdale School students to join in the celebration of the club's 60th anniversary in the old school building Friday, June 27.
According to Shrine records, the club formed with the purchase of the school property at 6 S. 33rd St. from the city for $7,500 on May 5, 1948.
Built in 1910, the school itself had closed in the early 1930s.
There also was a town named Arensdale, which was annexed into Colorado City in the early 1900s.
Shrine Club members are affiliated with the Al Kaly Shriners of Southern Colorado and the Shriners of North America, supporting 22 hospitals that provide free medical care to children.
The anniversary event, from 4 to 8 p.m. June 27, will feature a ceremony and speeches by club and civic leaders, followed by a picnic and dancing to live big-band music. Non-members are asked to give a donation of $5.
Former Arensdale students (or anyone seeking more information about the anniversary event) can call Col. (Dr.) Ralph Hathaway at 494-6516.
