Summer music series to bring live shows to Bancroft, Bear Creek Park starting in June

Austin Young, a 19-year-old local guitar prodigy, will play a gig for this year's Paint the Town Blue summer music series in Bancroft Park. He is pictured with his band during a 2013 "Paint" performance.

Two annual, outdoors summertime live music series will return to the Westside in June.
Both series are free and open to the public.
The offerings could actually be called two and a half series, because of an overlap with a third grouping of free performances.
El Paso County's Summer Concerts in the Parks will present bands in Bear Creek Regional Park (off Argus Boulevard, west of 21st Street) June 3, June 17, June 27, July 22, Aug. 19 and Aug. 2.
The Pikes Peak Blues Community (PPBC) will do the same in Old Colorado City's Bancroft Park on Thursdays between June 4 and July 16.
All but one of the Bear Creek Park shows will be performed by bands affiliated with the Pikes Peak Jazz & Swing Society (PPJASS). The non-PPJASS event will feature the Pikes Peak Philharmonic Orchestra (June 27). Recently released information shows that the Philharmonic show will include the Flash Cadillac "retro rock" band.
The third summer music series is provided by PPJASS, whose website announces that this year will be the “31st Annual Jazz in the Parks.” On the Westside, this series includes all of those at Bear Creek Park except the Philharmonic night - plus three others in Bancroft Park.
This is the 10th year of Paint the Town Blue in Old Colorado City. PPBC, a local nonprofit affiliated with the national Blues Foundation, has produced Paint the Town Blue since 2003, moving the concerts to Old Colorado City in 2006.
