Rock Ledge Ranch season begins with sheep-shearing June 2
In keeping with tradition, opening day at Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site will feature demonstrations of sheep-shearing, sheepdog herding and wool-working Saturday, June 2.
Located off Gateway Road at 30th Street, the ranch will be open Wednesday to Saturday through the summer until Aug. 18. Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for ages 55-and-up and $4 for ages 6-17.
Special public events during that time, according to the ranch schedule, will be a blacksmith workshop June 16-17, the annual Family Fourth celebration of Independence Day July 4 and the annual Fiddles, Vittles & Vino bluegrass festival July 29. Separate admission/participation rates will apply to these events.
Starting Aug. 2 and continuing through Aug. 26 will be the second year of “Shakespeare at the Ranch,” by the UCCS-based Theatreworks troupe.
Other annual events are scheduled in September: the Vintage Base Ball Game (Sept. 3), Holly Berry Folk Art Festival (Sept. 14-16) and Garden of the Gods Powwow (Sept. 22).
