Residents can pick up parking signs from city

With Territory Days taking place over the three-day Memorial Day weekend, Colorado Springs Parks has free parking-awareness signs that residents near the Old Colorado City commercial district can post in their neighborhoods.
The signs can be picked up until Friday, May 25 in the lobby of the City Parks building, 1401 Recreation Way. The office is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (but closed from noon to 1 p.m.)
The 11-by-17-inch signs say: “Welcome to Old Colorado City! Please do not park within 5 feet of driveway.” The city will also provide survey stakes, to which the signs can be attached.
City Parks began providing the signs last year in response to complaints from some Old Colorado City residents that many of the thousands of people attending the annual Territory Days bash park illegally, so that they block driveways or stick out into the street.
City Police also intend to beef up parking patrols during the event this year, according to Aimee Cox of City Parks.
