Part of Waldo burn area reopening

More than 40 percent of the burn area from last summer's Waldo Canyon Fire will be reopened to the public Friday, May 24.
According to a press release from the U. S. Forest Service, Pike National Forest - Pikes Peak Ranger District, the locations will include the Rampart Reservoir Recreation Area trail, campgrounds and picnic sites; and National Forest System Roads 307, 311 and 313 (also known as the Schubarth Road).
The rest of the 18,000-acre Waldo Canyon burn area will stay closed for now because of various hazards, resulting from the fire. “Problems include falling rocks and dead trees, unstable ground and hidden stump holes,” the release states. “The closure also allows new vegetation to grow without being trampled. Additional revegetation projects will take place throughout the year.”
