West hydrogen car zooms to second at NREL

West Middle School won a second-place trophy in the category of stock-class hydrogen cars at the 14th annual Junior Solar Sprint and first-ever Hydrogen Fuel Cell car competitions, hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renew-able Energy Laboratory (NREL) May 15 in Golden.
The West team, which competed against 33 other teams, consisted of Erin Hubl, Parker King, Chris Luke and Andrew Ives.
Stock-class hydrogen cars are those made directly from a fuel cell kit, with limited modifications.
West also placed in the top fourth and fifth with its teams in the solar-car competition. The West entries were supervised by technology teacher Ranganath Weiner.
