Meet a Westsider:
Theresa Barbera

Profession/Occupation... Owner of the Mountain Man Nut & Fruit Company in Old Colorado City for the past 8 years. I have lived on the Westside for 29 years.

What I like most about the Westside is... the uniqueness of the people, I love being so close to the mountains. Every day it is like looking at a different postcard.

If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... to bring back the St. Patrick's Day parade to Old Colorado City. When my daughter was little, we used to walk the few blocks to Colorado Avenue to watch the parade every year.

A good movie I’ve seen recently is... I haven’t seen one lately, but my all-time favorite is “Fifth Element,” with Bruce Willis. It’s the only movie that I can listen to in surround sound.

The worst advice I’ve ever gotten was... when I was a waitress and a customer told me “Don't take any wooden nickels!” and he left me a wooden nickel for a tip.

If I could meet someone famous, I’d like to meet... Val Kilmer. He is so sexy. I can watch the movie “The Saint” a zillion times and still think he's good-looking.

The next time I travel, I’m going to... travel around Colorado. We live in a beautiful state and I'd like to see more of it.

My favorite childhood memory is... when I started working with my father at the flea market. He paid me two dollars for the day and my older brother was so mad at me because Dad had never paid him.

My favorite winter pastime is... Going camping in the mountains before the first snowfall. You wake up in the morning to a perfect layer of snow everywhere, it's so beautiful. It is a little chilly yet very calming to the soul. Our tent has a built-in fireplace to keep us nice and warm.

Something good I’ve read is.. I read the local papers and I love “Cobweb Corners,” by Mel McFarland in the Westside Pioneer.

My pet peeve is... When I have an idea that is out of the ordinary and some people won't risk being a little different to try it.

If I won the lottery, I’d... Definitely buy a new van for hauling my Mountain Man goodies. A vacation in Italy with my children and mother would be wonderful. I would donate some money to a few local charities and invest some for the future.

Meet a Westsider” is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you would like to be a Meet-a-Westsider (or know someone who should be), please give us a call at 471-6776.
